Sinclair Patterns Xena Tank

In early June, I had the opportunity to test Sinclair Patterns’ new release, the Xena Tank & Bra. Xena is a casual racerback tank that can be made with or without a built-in bra. I don’t usually wear racerback tanks, but I must say that I love this one! It’s super comfy and I’ve been wearing mine all the time in this crazy heat. I completed two versions; one with swim fabric and one in ITY.

Swim with it

I made this version with some swim knit I found at Goodwill … yeah. I thrift shop for fabric and sometimes find epic deals! I think there were about nine yards of misc. fabrics in the bag with this and I paid maybe $6.

I chose the swim knit for this one because I have seen some adorable swim tanks and wanted to see what Xena would be like in that role. Let me just say, she rocks it! I chose to go with the built-in bra that I made with swim fabric and swim lining. Paired with swim bottoms, this makes an awesome swim tank!

Comfy casual

For this version, I used this lovely, patterned ITY from The Fab Clique Fabric Shoppe. ITY is great to sew with and I love how cool and smooth it is. I used a bit of lace from a shirt I upcycled for the back yoke panel and the bands are in swim fabric. This one also has the built-in bra … because who needs straps messing up the look? 😀

I chose to leave the bottom band off this one and I really like the results.

Thoughts about the pattern

The Xena pattern is well drafted and easy to follow. One thing I really appreciate about Sinclair Patterns is that when you purchase a pattern, you get three versions: petite, regular and tall. Since I’m 5’10”, the Tall version is perfect. Xena is a fairly easy sewing project — unless you’re really tired and it’s late. I do have a third version that’s waiting for the seam ripper because I sewed the side back seam … to the other side back seam. Ooops. Oh well.
