The first part of Made for Mermaids Clueless Collection released today and I’m so excited to share it with you! Fun and trendy, this collection includes the Cher and Women’s Cher Skirts, the Dionne and Women’s Dionne Blazers, and the Amber & Elton Sweater Vest.

I have loved being part of the tester team for Amber & Elton, Cherand Women’s Cher. It was great fun working with the Made For Mermaids team for the first time and I love seeing every tester’s unique take on each pattern.

About The Women’s Cher Skirt

The Cher Skirt is classy and flattering and comes with multiple options. Designed for woven fabrics, Cher is a quarter circle skirt with a side zipper (don’t be intimidated … it’s easy to install!). It has either a plain front view, a placket front with buttons or snaps, and/or fun patch pockets! The Women’s Cher Skirt has three length options; knee length, mini, and micro-mini.

My Version of the Women’s Cher

I chose a lovely woven plaid from JoAnn’s for my Women’s Cher Skirt. I loved the colors in this plaid the moment I saw it, but it sat in my stash for months because I didn’t know what to use it for …. until now!

I made the simple view A, knee length, plain front skirt. For the main Women’s Cher skirt, you have the option of cutting on the straight of grain or on the bias. I love the drape of a bias cut skirt — and the look of plaid when it is cut this way. I find bias cut skirts to be quite flattering as well.

I fall in the Made for Mermaids size Yellow and used that size for my Women’s Cher. I had to adjust it a little bit because my waistband stretched out due to the loose weave of my fabric. The tutorial gives interfacing the waistband as an option, and I think it would have been a good choice, especially for this fabric. Next time I’ll add that in.

The instructions include a traditional hem, but because I love the way they look, I chose to do a blind hem. It’s my go-to hem technique if I have a choice.

The invisible zipper on this skirt is very easy to install. Megan’s instructions are easy to follow and you can use just a regular zipper foot. No special, invisible zipper foot required! I love simplicity. 🙂

I love how I feel in this skirt. It’s classy and I feel just a bit sassy in it too! I’ve worn it to the office several times and love it. It dresses up or down very nicely. Several of the testers made versions of corduroy or even faux suede! They look awesome!

I need to go find more fabric to make another Cher. In the meantime, go check out the Cher Skirt pattern!

Also … I’m addicted to Mommy & Me matching outfits!
